Layla Kardan Joins Forces with Saudi’s Hottest Fashion Designer and Fashion Influencers to Champion Gender Equality
Having gained support from some of the largest and most respected brands and performed on major UEA stages such as Emirates Airline Jazz Festival, Art Dubai, and the Dubai International Film Festival, Layla Kardan has now returned, collaborating with one of Saudi Arabia’s most exciting and upcoming fashion designers, Arwa Al Banawi on new single ‘The Suitable Woman’, produced by rising middle eastern star, ROBN.
Focused on changing perceptions of a woman’s role in society and pushing for equality, Layla aims to educate both Middle Eastern and Western audiences. Collaborating with production company D Journal, the pair have produced a fashion forward, edgy video featuring some of the region’s biggest fashion influencers: Rania Fawaz, Zeynab El Helw, Jory Al Maiman and Tamara Al Gabbani.
Born in Belgium with Iranian roots and now living in the United Arab Emirates, Layla’s desire to write songs and perform is at odds with Middle Eastern convention. Supporting the rising up for equality through fashion, Arwa’s brand is all about being “a bold and expressive woman who is not hindered by fear or limitations. These are women who pursue the things they are passionate about despite the challenges and persevere to see their dreams become a reality and are not deterred by the social expectations from them.”
“The Suitable Woman is the slogan of my label’ says Arwa, ‘and celebrates the woman on the go; a woman who fights for her beliefs and proactively chases her dreams to realise her fullest potential.”
Celebrating the power found within through introspection and personal experience, Layla marries her smoky soulful voice with pop, jazz, Middle Eastern and R&B rhythms and melodies, Layla’s sound is evocative and achingly poignant – an international star with a global message.
