Dallas native TOYA NASH’s funky tunes land somewhere between the classic soul sass of Chaka Khan and the innovative RnB vibes of Aaliyah. Previously, TOYA NASH released her sultry single, “Paradise,” which hinted at the sound she has now nailed down on the distinctive “Now What,” which blasts out of the speakers on a bed of chopped up horn samples as she shifts from demanding diva to sultry falsetto on the serpentine chorus.
TOYA NASH has created a Pop infused R&B/Soul sound that is both accessible and wildly out of the box, both futuristic and grounded in the sounds of the past. It’s interesting to note that the songstress honed her storytelling skills as an actress and is also a successful entrepreneur, having founded Coach Your Craft, a coaching company for voice and acting. Her ability to embody her emotions fully translates into her music, born from an authentic place and always deeply felt and never forced.
“Now What” will soon be followed by its accompanying music video, choreographed by famed LA Choreographer Brooklyn Jai. The vibe of the song is so funky, it’s hard to register that at its base level, “Now What” is an unrequited love song, but the video makes this perfectly clear. “It’s about caring for someone deeply, having his back through his troubles, but realizing in the end that he doesn’t have your back in return, and is instead wreaking havoc and being reckless with your emotions,” Toya asserts. “The song is really about taking your power back and moving on with abandon. It’s an anthem.”
